Golf Clubs - Vertical specific considerations for App Configuration

Golf Club specific article on how to think about activating app features and compiling content of the application.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Loialcard provides some golf specific functionality that makes the Loialcard app an even better fit for golf clubs that look at improving their communication with their members and guests.

The most important ones in this article are:

There are is also a general article on App configuration:

Golf-ID login

Read this if you want to let your users register and login with Golf-ID, not only email and password

Activating this tickbox and entering your Club ID (most often Loialcard does this for you in the administration panel) lets users login with their Golf-ID (as a club you also have to activate the integration with a click in GiT allowing Loialcard access to the functionality).

Golf-ID login is most often combined with the Auto Assignment of Card Themes based on GiT to assign the correct membership card per user automatically. If a user logs in with Golf-ID with an email address already registered and verified by a user in the app, these are automatically merged into one user.

Auto Assignment of Card Themes based on GiT

Read this if you want to match memberships in GiT automatically to Card Themes in the application

By setting up rules per Card Theme the system can automatically assign the correct membership card per user. If the Golf-ID of the user is not a member of your club they can be assigned the guest card. If the user is a member of your club they can be assigned a card that matches their membership level in GiT. During setup of this GiT membership levels (see example in image below) are matched to Card Themes, normally not 1-to-1 but rather multiple levels in GiT matched to a fewer number of cards in the application.

A setup of Card Themes could be (a simple version would be having only one guest card and one membership card which is also a good starting point):

  1. One guest card - for users logging in with email / password (or, if activated, Social Login). These could be restaurant guests not playing golf but still important for your business. This would be marked as the Entry Card in the system

  2. One Golf-ID guest card - for all golf playing guests logging in with Golf-ID. Not mixing them with the non Golf-ID users often makes sense since these users are interested in golf related information

  3. One default generic Golf-ID membership card - default card for all actual members of your club, but that for some reason (e.g. if a new membership has been set up in GiT and no matching rule has been set up in Loialcard for it) are not caught by one of the matching rules for specific membership levels between GiT and Loialcard

  4. One or a few specific Golf-ID membership cards - for users logging in with Golf-ID and being members of your club as well as matching specific membership categories in GiT (the rules per such card can pick up either one specific category or a number of categories)

  5. Potentially one card for staff of your club, a card that you would assign manually to each such user

Book start time

Read this if you want to link to booking of tee / start time from your application

Most golf clubs want to link to their booking of tee times. There are different providers of booking systems and link format differs a bit between the two. Often clubs add a Page to which they link to from the menu and then from there they link to the external web address for booking tee time. Linking to these web addresses is preferably combined also with URLs Embed.

Other GiT Widgets

Read this if you want to link to other GiT widgets than booking from your application

Apart from the Booking widget from GiT there are a few more, such as Slope and Scorecard. The logic to include these as links in the application is the same as for the Booking widget. See information here https://gitwidgets.golf.se/ about the other widgets from GiT

Restaurant / Shop / Contact

Read this if you want to have a menu item of your restaurant, shop or contact details

Normally golf clubs have links in the main menu about their facilities such:

  1. Restaurant, leading to a Page about the facility and often also having a link from there leading to an external web address where the menu is accessible and kept updated regularly. This requires the menu in such case to always have the same web address (or if PDF, also the same name)

  2. Shop, presenting a Page about the shop, often with contact information and possibly seasonal offers that can be highlighted to users by sending a notification with the shop page as the destination

  3. Contact, leading to a page with the club contact information

Golf Course Guides

Read this if you want to link to your golf course guide from your application

Golf course guides can be linked to from the application, preferably combined with the URL Embed function. Often a club would have a Page setup about their course and from that page accessed from the menu they then link to the external web addresses where the course guide can be found. As for the links, there are different providers of course guides and here are some examples of link formats:

  1. Live Caddie, https://courses.livecaddie.com/course-graphics.php?course=229&hole=1&embedded (Live Caddies embedded link, see parameter in URL, may not be embedded by the Loialcard feature URL Embed since that might make images not render)

  2. Live Caddie, https://courses.livecaddie.com/course-graphics.php?course=325&hole=1&embedded (Live Caddies embedded link, see parameter in URL, may not be embedded by the Loialcard feature URL Embed since that might make images not render)

The Greenbird and Live Caddie links open the course guides directly whereas the Caddee link first presents an overview page (Loialcard has a dialogue ongoing about this with Caddee).

Golf Course Locations, e.g. Tee of Hole 1

Read this if you want to place specific locations on the map in the application, e.g. the tee for hole 1

The Location functionality allows for map pin placement not connected to a registered Google address, e.g. the tee of hole 1 on a golf course. By first searching for the golf course and then changing the coordinates or clicking the map for a precise pin position.

Membership Card Player Identification

Read this if you want to use the membership card to identify if a player on your golf course actually is a member at your club according to GiT

With the Golf-ID login functionality and the auto assignment of Card Themes you can verify membership level of a user by having them display their membership card in the application on the course or at the club house.

Sponsor Pages and Locations

Read this if you want to have a menu link leading to a section highlighting your sponsors and partners

Some golf clubs add a menu link called Partners or similar leading to a Page listing their partners with short text and image, at times even linking to pages per main partner. These pages can then also be used as a destination for a notification if you want to highlight some partners that way as well. On top of this some golf clubs also highlight their main partners as Locations on the map, possibly including a map message popup message or even a detailed location page with external link to their partner’s web site.

Matchii booking page

Read if you want to link to a booking service provided by Matchi

Some golf clubs have padel courts or other facilities booked through Matchi. These can be linked to with a smart and slimmed down presentation if using the proper link format, as per below including a “1” at the end of the URL. Linking to these web addresses is preferably combined also with URLs Embed.

Golf Lesson Booking (Google Appointment/Form)

Read if you want to be able to book lessons through Google Appointment Schedule.

Some golf clubs have each coach to create their own appointment schedule in Google Calendar, where they set availability, lesson length, and notes such as “range” or “short game.” The public booking link can then be attached to a Page, and that is preferably combined with URL Embed. A common setup is to have a single menu link called Book a Lesson or similar, leading to a page that lists all coaches, each with their own button linking to their schedule. This makes the booking process simple and familiar for members, while also saving time for the coaches since they manage their own availability.

Highlight Events

Read this if you want to be able to make events stand out.

Some golf clubs want important events, such as the club championship, custom fittings or annual meeting, to be extra visible in the app. This can be done by using the Highlight option, simply click the checkmark under Highlights on the event page. Highlighted events will stand out visually in the list, and if you choose to highlight an event it will always remain at the very top until it has passed. This ensures members never miss the key dates, even when the calendar is crowded.

Events on the Home Widget

Read this if you want to be able to show events directly on the home screen widget.

It is possible to add upcoming events to the app’s home widget, giving users quick access right when they open the app. Highlighted events can also be shown here, ensuring the most important activities are always visible first. The widget updates automatically to show what’s next. This is good because it keeps members informed without extra effort, makes the app feel more alive, and helps the club promote events right on the front page.

You can enable this by going to Settings → General Settings, scroll down to Home Screen Widgets and click the checkbox next to Event Thumbnails on Home Screen.

Gallery & Video feature

Read this if you want to be able to use the gallery feature, where you can add photos, single images, or videos.

The gallery feature makes it easy to share visual content in different ways. You can combine several images in one gallery, show a single photo, or add a video. This feature works well for everything from quick highlights to full recaps of events.

Each gallery includes a short description. This is useful because it helps users quickly understand what they are looking at. The description makes the content clearer, more engaging, and easier to remember.

When to use different formats

  • Single Image – Ideal for quick updates, such as announcing a hole-in-one or showing today’s special in the restaurant.

  • Video – Perfect when movement or atmosphere matters, such as course maintenance updates, highlights from an event, or a greeting from the club manager.

  • Gallery (several images) – Best for broader coverage, for example, tournament recaps, award ceremony, or social events where multiple photos add to the story. With the right image sizes, clubs can create a smooth swipe effect. This gives a modern, visually appealing way for members to scroll through highlights.
