Golf-ID is an optional way of letting your users login to the app, based on an integration with GiT, the IT system provided by The Swedish Golf Federation.
The login of email and password is always available as a fallback for any user without a Golf-ID, or if a user is simply not interested in using their Golf-ID to log in to the app.
Golf ID Login General Information
Golf-ID registration is available exclusively to members of golf clubs managed by the Swedish Golf Federation. All golfers receive their credentials directly from the federation.
If a golfer needs to reset their password or change their Golf-ID email, they must do so through the Swedish Golf Federation at Min Golf. The app only reads information from GiT and updates from the app into GiT are not possible.
Golf-ID login is most often combined with the setup of Auto Assignment of Card Themes based on GiT. This is not mandatory but well worth considering for a smarter and more automated management of your users that are golf players.
As for these overall golf club related consideration, please refer to this article that also talks about auto-assignment more specifically for a golf club, Golf Clubs - Vertical specific considerations for App Configuration.
Enabling Golf-ID Login in your App
To activate Golf-ID login in the app there are two main steps to be taken:
Make Loialcard an approved third party vendor in your GiT installation
Enabling the tick box in the administration panel and enter Golf Club ID (Loialcard most often supports with this and has access to yours and other clubs' Club ID)
Scroll down to the section on Login Options
Tick "Enable Golf-ID Login in App"
WARNING: Make sure you have first activated Loialcard as an approved third party vendor in GiT.Enter your Golf Club ID
Example of the format is b4911992-be84-4c13-8ff0-0959bb179c98.
This Club ID is not a secret key and can be found for example if you navigate to https://gitwidgets.golf.se/bookings, select your club in the dropdown and then in the script identifies the ID as per the example format above.
Data collected and made available for segmentation of notifications
Apart from making the log in process a bit simpler, the app also collects data from GiT about the user.
GolfIT First Name | Golfer's first name |
GolfIT Last Name | Golfer's last name |
GolfIT Club Name | Name of golf club |
GolfIT Membership Type | Type of club membership |
GolfIT Membership Status | Current membership status |
GolfIT Handicap | Current golf handicap |
GolfIT Nationality | Golfer's nationality |
GolfIT Phone Number | Contact phone number |
GolfIT Handicap Date | Date handicap was last updated |
GolfIT Gender | Golfer's gender |
GolfIT Date of Birth | Golfer's date of birth |
GolfIT Is Club Member | Whether the golfer is a club member |
GolfIT Is Member | Whether the golfer is a member |
This data can be used to auto-assign card themes for the user but also to segment notification sendouts. The fields are made available as filters in the Send Notification feature of the administration panel.
Social Login combined with Golf-ID
Loialcard also offers the possibility to let users login with Social Login accounts such as Google and Apple. Social Login can be used in combination with Golf-ID, but from a business perspective it is likely better for a Golf Club to only activate Golf-ID login. Reasons for this is that Golf-ID login also brings in GiT data about the user possible to use for the auto assignment of a specific Card Theme but even more importantly these data fields can also be used for the segmentation of notification send outs.
If a Golf Club app offers both Golf-ID and Social Login, some golfers might take the easy route using Social Login rather than entering their Golf-ID credentials leading to the "loss" of these possibilities.
Also, a user mixing different login methods (Email / Password + Golf-ID + Social Login) all using the same email address might experience account issues with these accounts not being connected and also depending on what login method was first used, experience unexpected behaviours in the login process.
Logging in to the app as a user using Golf-ID
To log in, a registered golfer simply enters the Golf-ID and corresponding password, which will then take them directly to the onboarding flow if it is the first time they log in, otherwise directly into the app.
Logged in as a Golf-ID user the profile page of the user disables the possibility to edit the email address. This only works for users logged in with the fallback method of email and password.
Issues with Golf-IDs sharing an email address
Golf-IDs may exist in GiT using the same email address. However in the app the email address is a unique identifier managing the user session. This means that a user who tries to log in with a Golf-ID having the same email address as another user that has already logged in with their Golf-ID in the app will receive an error message as per below.
Login Failed – Email Already in Use
It looks like someone has already logged into the app with a different Golf-ID using the same email address as yours.
To log in with your Golf-ID, each email address must be unique.
Please update the email address linked to your Golf-ID by logging in to the Swedish Golf Federation’s website:
https://mingolf.golf.se
After updating your email, you can return to the app and try logging in again.
What If Conditions for Member’s Email Address
In the occasion of a user login in with both an email address and password and then later with a Golf-ID sharing that same email address, those two sessions / accounts would be merged.
If a user with two such merged accounts and ways to login, when logged in with email and password goes to the profile page of the app and changes the email address, the connection of the two accounts would be broken (since they are no longer sharing the same email address).
